Many homes today are going the way of an electric cooktop. Just about every luxury apartment building is using them right now for the very modern look they add to the kitchen. I do like these far better than the old coil electric stoves, especially when it comes to aesthetics. However. They can get very messy very quickly. Even water that boils over looks like a horrible mess that has damaged the cooktop.
Rest assured, in most cases, the mess is fairly easy to clean up, likely with some items you have in your pantry already. If not, there are some solutions you can purchase that will do the job.
Making a Natural Cooktop Cleaner
The one thing you never want to use on a glass cooktop cleaner is an abrasive scrubber. They do sell scrub pads specifically for glass cooktops that will not scratch the surface, but you will still need a cleaner to get the job done. While you can purchase these cleaners, you likely have everything you need in the home already.
Ingredients:
- Water
- .5 cups of baking soda
- .25 cups of white vinegar
If you have any size spray bottle, add the vinegar, then fill the rest of the way with water.
In a small bowl, combine baking soda a loose paste, then spread around on the cooktop. Use a glass cooktop scrubber to clean the surface. Lightly spray the entire surface with the vinegar/water solution, which will create a bubbling action on the cooktop surface. If there are stubborn spots, use the scrubber again to try to get them off.
Using a moist towel, remove as much of the paste as you can. Then, spray the entire surface down with water/vinegar mix and wipe down again to remove all of the paste.
If you are going to buy a prepared cleaner for the cooktop, there are only two brands that I would recommend:
- Weiman
- Cerama Bryte
I have used both of these products, as well as their scrub pads, and have never had a problem. Even with the most difficult, burnt-on stains on the cooktop surface, they have always managed to bring the original surface back clean and shiny.
